| This is a 1949 vintage cake top which had cracked both on the figurines and the base, the latter missing some large pieces. The bride and groom were cleaned, the cracked areas patched, matching the pattern as best as possible on the base which was then sealed and coated with a pearl finish (with the luster of typical | period silk or satin wedding gowns). The handmade lace was salvaged with gentle cleaning. A new flower with leaves was added to the front. This restoration was more extensive than most, taking over 6 hours to complete. I couldn't bring myself to make these photos any smaller so as to show the detail. |
